Links!! Food, homesteading, other stuff

First up, our Fourth of July desert Strawberry Cream Cheese Trifle. I skipped the currant jelly [way too expensive] and just sugared the berries. It was great!

SAUERKRAUT?? YECK?? No way, Jose! Liberty Sauerkraut Salad

As we were eating it on the 4th here is the conversation:

P: Is there more of this?
B: Me too.....
Candy Cane (cat) pokes nose up to table and sniffs her approval
Me: No, I threw 1/2 of it out last year.
Kids: WHY?
Me: No One Ate it
Kids: Did we know about it?
Me: (head slap)

It's good--Candy Cane has a very discerning palate. She KNOWS food. It's good. Trust me.

Stonesoup is offering this incredibly beautiful free e-cookbook. It's loaded with beautiful photos and best of all it's a MINIMALIST cookbook--very few ingredients in each recipe! Stonesoup Free Eco-Cookbook. (Measurements are for both US & International measurements.) (Another thank you to Down to Earth for this one as well.)

Over at "Down To Earth" (one of the best blogs on the net by the way) I found this gem--a video blog of called How To Homestead. Homesteaders create videos of their processes, products, etc for those of us who dream of life in the country. I know, youtube, also has videos like this, but this is a site dedicated to furthering our homestead dreams! Check it out--the picture above is just one of the helpful video topics. (Oh yes, Down to Earth, has great tutorials and lots of great ideas too!)

Finally, I rarely spend money on something I don't need--well except a few books! Anyway, for one of my friend's birthdays I splurged and bought us each a set of these cloth "Dave Ramsey"-style envelopes for our purses. I see now that the lady doesn't have any more in her Etsy shop (Tres Marias) right now, but she IS selling the pattern and list of supplies for a very small fee, so here is the link to the pattern sales on Etsy.
