A Charlotte Mason Thanksgiving

Hymn to learn:
We Gather Together
We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing;
He chastens and hastens His will to make known;
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing,
Sing praises to His name: He forgets not his own.

Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, wast at our side, All glory be thine!

We all do extol thee, thou leader triumphant,
And pray that thou still our defender wilt be.
Let thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!

Bible: Psalm 100

An Exhortation to Thanksgiving
A Psalm of praise.

1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness:
come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God:
it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise:
be thankful unto him,and bless his name.
5 For the LORD is good;
his mercy is everlasting; 1 Chr. 16.34 · 2 Chr. 5.13 ; 7.3 · Ezra 3.11 · Ps. 106.1 ; 107.1 ; 118.1 ; 136.1 · Jer. 33.11
and his truth endureth to all generations.

History: George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789

Picture Study: Norman Rockwell's Thanksgiving Classic "Free From Want"

And, specially for Jemima, who lives in the delightful country of Australia, links to watch that all-time American cartoon classic "The Mouse on the Mayflower." Miss Mason may well have termed this "twaddle," but if you were a kid in the late 60s and early 70s you know it by heart!

I'm off to enjoy tomorrow by watching the Macy's Parade, the National Dog Show, NO FOOTBALL, and a movie. We'll be having turkey and a few side dishes, but not the groaning board of traditional fare.

Wish we could see the whole cartoon! I just watched 'November' - the last four or so minutes, and was amazed to hear the whole of Psalm 100 being quoted - in a cartoon! If kids know this by heart then they know the Psalm words as well. Cool!

Will show Jemimah when she wakes up.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving - turkey tacos and all...
