A fun and funny far!

In on Chapter 7 of A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian right now and so far it's a hoot! I won't give away the story, but will just say it's fun. In other ways it does bring back my professor's impassioned lectures about Stalin's forced famine and the collectivization of Soviet Agriculture. With two Ukrainian-born teenagers as the center piece of my own life, I occasionally think back to the very poor place they lived in before I adopted them. They are from Crimea, from a yucky, rust-belt-type manufacturing city surrounded by beautiful farmland that was nearly ruined by the Soviet Union's top-down economic planning and the Collective Farm system. I'm listening to the BBC's unabridged audio version. The women reading it does a fairly good job of immitating accents so it's even funnier listening to it.

This one's on my list too! I thought it looked good. I'm reading Kite Runner.
